Medal winning performance for French debaters

Coláiste Éanna’s French debating team captain Luke Dunleavy won a best speaker medal for the second time as the team opposed the motion that ‘La publicité fait plus de bien que de mal ‘ (Advertising does more good than harm) at the Alliance Française recently.

The judges praised the content and delivery of Luke’s main speech and his résumé, describing his performance as impeccable. He will be presented with his medals at the overall final in May.

The team, Luke Dunleavy and Cian Kelly (5th year) and Robert O’Connell and Patrick Lyons (6th year), were most unfortunate to lose the debate by the narrowest of margins against Mount Anville. Overall, the adjudicators praised Coláiste Éanna for the sophistication of the arguments we brought to support our case, adding that a substantial number of them had not been advanced by other schools taking part in the competition.
